BIO.
With 20 years of experience in the industry, Torbjørn T. Sandnes has worked with light and video design for the past 15 years.
Torbjørn primarily works within the genres of music and performing arts, but also participates in art installations, theatre plays and events. He collaborates with several dance companies, musicians and performers on a regular basis. He has designed dance performances such as “Märgben" (Norrdans, Sweden), “Å klore seg fast” (Hålogaland theater), “Anføttes” (Festspillene i Nord-norge / Kartellet), “Whispers by the pearly gates” (Stellaris Dance theater). He also designed ballet galas with dancers from, among other, Bolshoi and Mariinsky (Arctic international ballet gala 2016/2019).
Furthermore, Torbjørn works with several major national and international artists on a regular basis. He is presently the lighting designer and touring lighting technician for, among other, Highasakite, Hekla Stålstrenga, Benjamin Mørk, ISAK, Aleksander Kostopoulos, LÜT, and more.
During the recent years, Torbjørn started implementing video in his designs and has done the video design for several of the projects he is involved in. Torbjørn often implement scenography and special effects in the visual design to create a larger, seamless and total impression. He has also created and held several workshops focusing on lighting and video design, and was a "mentor" in the talent development program “Uredd”.
Mainly, but not exclusively, Torbjørn works with touring productions and has a wide experience from both national and international productions. This includes an extensive background from the culture industry beyond light and video design.
In his formative years as a technician, Torbjørn worked as tour manager, backline technician, production manager and various other roles within the industry. This experience gives him the advantage of an overall understanding of the industry and the design process, manifested in the ability to solve technical challenges with stage / sound / video and other elements of production before and during the implementation of a visual design.
